Do you need to obtain language credits for your Department?

If you have a valid certificate, you do not need to take the language exam for your Department.

The original certificate must be taken to the Academic and Student Support Services office in person.  An electronic copy may be sent e.g. a .pdf file via apply, but this must correspond exactly to the original certificate.  For precise details on how and when certificates can be presented, please check with the Academic and Student Support Services office.

Do you need to enrol on a language course at CLA?

If you have a valid certificate, you do not need to take the online placement test to enrol on a language course. You need to enrol online, but if you are not yet registered in Esse3 then you should present your certificate to the CLA Secretary’s office when you enrol in order to be accepted onto a course at the level above that of your certificate.

Do international certificates have an expiry date?

If the awarding body does not set an expiry date for its certificates, the University Language Centre accepts certificates within 5 years of their award date.
