Language skills required
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
Students enrolled from the academic year 2024/2025
Course in Italian
If you enrol on the Italian course you are required to pass
- an English A2 entrance test. The test must be passed within the first year of the course;
- an English B1 language test in order to graduate.
English track
If you enrol on the English pathway you are required to have
- knowledge of the English language at level B2, which you must acquire or certify for admission to the course and at the latest before taking the examinations from year 2 onwards.
- If you are a native Italian speaker, knowledge of English at level C1 or passing the Technical English exam, which you must acquire or certify before the final degree exam.
- If you are not a native Italian speaker, you must pass an A1 level Italian language proficiency test.
Students enrolled until the academic year 2023/2024
If you are registered before 2024/25, you are required to pass:
- an English A2 entrance test. The test must be passed within the first year of course;
- an English B1 language test in order to graduate.
However, we recommend that you also refer to the content of the "Foreign Languages” section of the Department website for your course of study.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, Communication and Electronic Engineering
Students enrolled from the academic year 2022/2023
Curriculum in Italian
If you are enrolled in the degree course taught in Italian, you are required to pass:
- A B1 English entrance test, to be certified or acquired before the start of the 2nd year;
- An English B2 language test in order to graduate.
However, we recommend that you also refer to the "Foreign languages" section of the Department website for your course of study.
Curriculum in English
If you are enrolled in the degree course taught in English (Information, Communication and Electronic Engineering) offered since the academic year 2022/23, you are required to pass:
- A B2 English entrance test, to be certified or acquired before the start of the 2nd year;
- a language test in English at C1 level, in order to graduate. Alternatively, you can choose to attend and pass the Technical English course. A mandatory attendance of at least 75% of the lessons is required to take the final exam of the course.
If you are not an Italian native speaker, in order to graduate you will have to pass an A1-CEFR level Italian language language test.
However, we recommend that you also refer to the "Foreign languages" section of the Department website for your course of study.
Students enrolled up to the academic year 2021/2022
If you enrolled up to the academic year 2021/2022 (curriculum only in Italian) you must have the following knowledge:
- A B1 English entrance test, to be certified or acquired before the start of the 2nd year;
- An English B2 language test in order to graduate.
However, we recommend that you also refer to the "Foreign languages" section of the Department website for your course of study.
Degree in Computer, Communication and Electronic Engineering
If you are enrolled in the Information and Communications Engineering degree course, you are required to pass:
- an English A2 entrance test. The test must be passed within the first year of course;
- a language test in English at B1 level in order to graduate.
You also have the option of taking an English B2 language test, which is preparatory to access the master's degree. The test must be taken mandatorily at the University Language Center (CLA). For this exam, the credit recognition through the presentation of an international language certification is not allowed. However, we recommend that you also refer to the "Foreign languages" section of the Department website for your course of study.
Degree in Information and Business Organization Engineering
If you are enrolled in the degree course in Information and Business Organization Engineering, you are required to pass:
- an English A2 entrance test. The test must be passed within the first year of course;
- an English B1 language test, in order to graduate.
You also have the option to take an English B2 language test, which is preparatory to access the master's degree. The test must be taken mandatorily at the University Language Center
(CLA). For this exam, the credit recognition through the presentation of an international language certification is not allowed.
Master's Degree in Computer Science
Computer Science and Technologies course:
- Students who are not Italian citizens must demonstrate their knowledge of Italian (level A1 - 3 credits) by the end of the course. It is possible to prove the knowledge of Italian by taking an A1-level language test at the CLA. Students also have the option to take an A2 language test (6 credits) for a total of maximum 6 credits.
- All enrolled students, both Italian and non-Italian, have the possibility to take one or more of the following educational activities as an exam of their choice:
- a language test in German at B1 level;
- a language test in French at B1 level;
- a language test in Spanish at B1 level;
- a Technical English course for master's degrees.
Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence System (AIS)
Students enrolled since the academic year 2022/23
This master’s course offers the possibility to enroll in the Technical English course as a didactic activity of your choice. A mandatory attendance of at least 75% of the lessons is required to take the final exam of the course.
Students enrolled until the academic year 2021/22
The master’s degree requires the mandatory attendance of the Technical English course. A mandatory attendance of at least 75% of the lessons is required to take the final exam of the course.
Non-Italian native speakers must also pass an Italian A1 language test.
Master's Degree in Information Engineering
This master’s course offers the possibility to enroll in the Technical Writing course as a didactic activity of your choice. A mandatory attendance of at least 75% of the lessons is required to take the final exam of the course.
Non-Italian native speakers must also pass an Italian A1 language test.
Master's Degree in Information and Communications Engineering
This master’s course offers the possibility to enroll in the Technical English course as a didactic activity of your choice. A mandatory attendance of at least 75% of the lessons is required to take the final exam of the course.
Non-Italian native speakers must also pass an Italian A1 language test.
Acknowledgement of language certificates
Students who have a language certification (acknowledged at international level as well as by the University of Trento) can send the certificate to the Academic and Student Services of their Department, in order to be accredited the credits related to the exam, without the need to take the entrance test/language exam for the first or second language. The certificate:
- must be sent via the appropriate application during the opening periods specified by the Department;
- must be in PDF format and legible;
- when there should be no expiry date, it will be considered valid for 5 years since the release date;
- must be part of the list of certificates accepted by the University.
