What are the courses?

Technical English / Technical Writing

The technical English courses are designed to enable students to study English in scientific academic contexts

Scientific Writing and Presentations in English

the Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course is aimed at developing students’ speaking and writing skills.

Academic Writing for your Master's Thesis

This course aims to support students in writing their thesis during the second year of the Industrial Engineering master's degrees.  The course covers the functions and typical language of the various sections of a thesis, and practices aspects such as conciseness, style and conciseness, which are then applied in pair or group work to extracts from the students' own theses during the lessons. Grammar is dealt with in response to problems or questions that arise. 

Who can enrol?

Technical English / Technical Writing

The course is aimed at:

  • Master’s degree students of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (in particular the students of the Information and Communications Engineering, Information Engineering, Computer Science and AIS degree course)
  • ICE Bachelor's degree students and Computer Science Bachelor's (in English) degree students.

The course is aimed at Master students in Physics and Mathematics 

Academic Writing for your Master's Thesis

The course is aimed at students enrolled in the second year of the Master degrees of the Department of Industrial Engineering

When are the courses held?

Technical English / Technical Writing

Period

1st semester: from October 6th to December 19th 2025 (excluding December 8th 2025)
2nd semester: from March 9th to May 29th 2026 (excluding from April 2nd to April 8th, and May 1st 2026)

Duration 30 hours (40 "academic" hours)
Lessons one 3-hour lesson per week
Level B2

Admission requirements

  • placement test indicating that students can attend a B2a course; the test must have been taken in the last six months  or
  • successful completion of a B1b level course at the CLA in the last 12 months or
  • successful completion of the B1 level Department exam or
  • presentation upon enrolment of an international certificate, at least of B1 level (see Recognised certificates)

Technical English / Technical Writing

  • Free of charge: for students on the Information and Communications Engineering degree course, Information Engineering degree course, ICE in English, Computer Science and AIS degree courses
  • €50:   for other students at Trento University and PhD students.
  • €100: for technical and administrative personnel, postgraduate students, scholarship students, researchers and lecturers at Trento University

  • Free of charge: for undergraduate degree students of the Department of Physics and for Master students in Mathematics
  • €50:   for other students of the University of Trento and PhD students.

Academic Writing for your Master's Thesis

The course is addressed to students enrolled in the second year of the Industrial Engineering master's degrees and is free of charge for them.

Enrolments are online (with the exception of the course on Academic Writing for your Master's Thesis, for which registration is only collected at the CLA office).
