What are the courses?

There are different types of course, depending on the Doctoral School:

IECS, DICAM, DII, PHYSICS, MATHEMATICS, CIBIO, AES, INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION and COGNITIVE SCIENCE DOCTORAL SCHOOLS

Academic Writing for the Sciences and Engineering: 24 hours
The course furthers students’ ability to draft a part of an academic paper and then improve it through a variety of tools, applying their knowledge of textual, grammatical, and lexical features of written academic English. An active approach is used, with participants drafting, discussing, and revising short texts related to their academic work.  Through pair and group discussion and teacher explanation, students increase their awareness of the effect of different language choices.

Presentations for the Sciences and Engineering:  16 hours
The purpose of this course is to improve students’ ability to give presentations and to be clear, especially as regards pronunciation. During the course students practise giving presentations and asking and answering questions. Students receive feedback regarding the language used in their presentation and about how the information is presented.

Academic Writing II for the Sciences and Engineering: 24 hours
The purpose of this course is to revise and extend the various aspects of language and writing introduced during the Technical English and the Academic Writing for the Sciences and Engineering courses, and in this context to improve clarity of expression in the papers that course participants are writing for the Qualifying exam at DISI.

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES DOCTORAL SCHOOL

Dissertation Writing for International studies: 12 hours
The aim of the course is to help students organize their research coherently at whole text level.

Dissertation Writing for International studies II: 24 hours
The aim of the course is to help students refine their empirical chapters through the peer review.
