Who can enroll?

The courses are free of charge and are aimed at students of the Master's course in Medicine and Surgery.
The "English for Medicine - Introduction" B1 course is compulsory in the second year, while the "English for Medicine - Advanced" B2 course is optional for the second and following years.

When do the courses take place?

The "English for Medicine - Introduction" B1 course is held in the first semester, while the "English for Medicine - Advanced" B2 course is held in the second semester.

"English for Medicine - Introduction" B1 course: from October to December 2025

(lessons on 8 December 2025 will not take place)

DURATION: 11 weeks

ATTENDANCE: 1 lesson a week (2 academic hours/90 actual minutes) for a total of 10 actual hours in the classroom + 10 hours of independent work at home

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

• pass the B1 general English proficiency test (at the CLA); or
• hold a recognized international certificate attesting a B1 level or above (see which certificates are recognized on the International certificates page). If the certificate is not registered in Esse3, it is necessary to upload it in the CLA system before enrolling.

"English for Medicine - Advanced" B2 course: from 11 March to 29 May 2026

ATTENDANCE: 2 lessons a week (2 academic hours/90 actual minutes each) for a total of 35 actual hours in the classroom + 15 hours of independent work at home (last lesson is of 2 actual hours).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

• pass the B2 general English proficiency test (at the CLA); or
• hold a recognized international certificate attesting a B2 level or above (see which certificates are recognized on the International certificates page). If the certificate is not registered in Esse3, it is necessary to upload it in the CLA system before enrolling; or
• be eligible for the enrollment in a C1a course as a result of the CLA's online language placement test, which must have been taken no earlier than 6 months prior to enrolment.

How do I enroll?

Online only. The didactic activity must be entered in Esse3 before course enrolment.

Enrollment timeframe

First semester: corso "English for Medicine - Introduction" course

from 9.00 am on 22nd September to 11.59 pm on 26th September.

Second semester: corso "English for Medicine - Advanced" course

from 10.00 am on 23rd February to 11.59 pm on 27th February.
