What are the courses?

The technical English courses are designed to enable students to study English in scientific academic contexts; the Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course is aimed at developing students’ speaking and writing skills.

Who can enrol?

Technical English course for Master's degree students and ICE Bachelor's degree students

The course is aimed at:

  • Master’s degree students of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (in particular the students of the Information and Communications Engineering, Computer Science and AIS degree course)
  • ICE Bachelor's degree students (in English)

Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course

The course is aimed at:

  • students of Master students in Physics and Mathematics
When are the courses held?

Technical English course

Period

1st semester: 
Technical English: from 3 October to 16 December (excluding 31 October, 1 November, 8 and 9 December)

2nd semester:
Technical English: from 6 March to 29 May (excluding from 6th to 12th April inclusive, 24th and 25th April, 1st May 2023)
Duration 30 hours (40 "academic" hours)
Lessons one 3-hour lesson per week
Level B2

Admission requirements 

  • placement test indicating that students can attend a B2a course; the test must have been taken in the last six months  or
  • successful completion of a B1b level course at the CLA in the last 12 months or
  • successful completion of the B1 level Department exam or
  • presentation upon enrolment of an international certificate, at least of B1 level (see Recognised certificates)

Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course

Period

How much does enrolment cost?

Technical English course

  • Free of charge: for students on the Information and Communications Engineering degree course, ICE and on the Computer Science and AIS degree course
  • €50:   for other students at Trento University and PhD students.
  • €100: for technical and administrative personnel, postgraduate students, scholarship students, researchers and lecturers at Trento University

Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course

  • Free of charge: for undergraduate degree students of the Department of Physics and for Master students in Mathematics
  • €50:   for other students of the University of Trento and PhD students.
  • €100: for technical and administrative personnel, postgraduate students, scholarship students, researchers and lecturers at Trento University

Only at the CLA Secretary's Office. 

Enrolment dates

1st semester

Students on the degree course in Information and Communications Engineering and ICE (for the Technical English courses) and Master students in Mathematics and Physics (for the Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course):
from 19th to 21st September 2022 at CLA Secretary's Office from 9.00 to 12.00 noon and from 14.00 to 16.00

Students on the degree course in Computer Science, AIS and other students of the University of Trento, Phd students, technical and administrative personnel, postgraduate students, scholarship students, researchers and lecturers at Trento University:
on 22nd and 23rd September 2022 at CLA Secretary's Office from 9.00 to 12.00 noon and from 14.00 to 16.00 (on Friday only from 09.00 to 12.00 noon)

2nd semester

Students on the degree course in Information and Communications Engineering and ICE (for the Technical English courses), Master students in Mathematics and Physics (for the Scientific Writing and Presentations in English course):
from 13th to 15th February 2023 at CLA Secretary's Office from 09.00 to 12.00 noon and from 14.00 to 16.00

on 16th and 17th February 2023 at CLA Secretary's Office from 09.00 to 12.00 noon and from 14.00 to 16.00 (on Friday only from 09.00 to 12.00 noon)
